He is on the advisory or editorial board of The Translator Research in Intercultural Communication, TTR Translation, Terminologie redaction Translation Review, Translation Studies, Target: An International Journal of Translation Studies, and Palimpsestes. The editor has also edited issues of journals that focus on minority and translation (The Translator, 1998) and poetry and translation (Translation Studies in 2011). His translation work has been recognized with grants and awards by The PEN American Center (1980) and The Italian Government (1983) as well as The National Endowment for the Arts (1983 and 1999) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (1989). In 1999, he received an Fulbright senior lectureship on Translation Studies in the University of Vic (Catalonia).
