Stassen later ran during the election of 2014 European election for her constituency in South East England in the UK as the top contender for Eurosceptic political party An Independence from Europe. The party did not win.
Then, in December of 2014 Stassen declared that she was a member of the party For the Netherlands, which was founded by two former PVV members earlier in the year.

The elections of 2009, the European Parliament elections, Stassen was ranked 4th among the Party for Freedom (PVV) list. The PVV got four seats however, the party’s leader who was lower in the list Geert Wilders won through preference votes. Wilders however, had previously stated that he would stay as a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands and would not be able to take his place at the European Parliament, thus Stassen became a member of the European Parliament on 14 July 2009.
On December 10, 2010 it was announced that Stassen was to run for PVV leader of the PVV party for the provincial of Limburg during the 2011 provincial elections. She was elected and kept her seat in the European Parliament. On the 21st of March, 2014, she resigned from the PVV due to alleged disparaging remarks made by Geert Wilders in relation to Moroccans. She was able to remain until the European Parliament elections in May 2014, then left the State- Provincial of Limburg and returned her place to the Party for Freedom.
