Latavious Bernard Williams (born on 29th March 1989) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League.
On October 31st October, 2010 The Tulsa 66ers announced that Williams will be joining this team during the season 2010-11. The rights to him to play in the NBA were in the hands of the Thunder. He averaged 13.2 per game and 8.6 rebounding in just 41 games.
Williams was automatically eligible for the 2010 NBA draft as he was already one year removed from his high school graduation. He was drafted by the Miami Heat in the second round with the 48th pick. He became the first player ever to skip college basketball and play a year in the D-League before getting drafted in the NBA. He also became the second player to be drafted from a D-League team to the NBA, after Mike Taylor in 2008. Shortly after being drafted by the Heat, his draft rights were traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the NBA team affiliated with the Tulsa 66ers, in exchange for a future second-round pick.
On August 23, 2011, Williams signed a one-year contract with Spanish team FIATC Joventut. At the end of the regular season, he earned Most Spectacular Player honors.
After completing his high school studies, Williams intended to play basketball at the college level. He was named an amongst the best 20 prospects in the class of 2009. He made his formal commitment to Memphis University of Memphis. He decided to go to Memphis before Georgetown, Kansas State and Florida International. He was Josh Pastner’s first player as coach of the Memphis Tigers head coach. But he was unable to be able to pass the academic test and then pulled out of his decision to join Memphis and instead opted to skip basketball in college to compete professionally. A student who is a high schooler at a school in the United States is not eligible to participate in into the NBA draft until one year after graduation from high school. He was scheduled to join an overseas team before he could join the NBA at the time he was eligible. This is the same path that was followed by Brandon Jennings who played in the Italian league for a time before his 2009 draft.

Williams became the only player to not play in college basketball and instead play one time on the D-League before being selected for the NBA. He was also the very first player to join the D-League directly after graduating from high school. Williams was however the second player chosen as a player for an D-League team, since Mike Taylor ended up being selected the year before in the year 2008. In September the year 2015 Williams had never participated in in a game of competitive play (regular game or season) with the NBA as one of only two D-League draftees with this claim (the other being Chukwudiebere maduabum).
Williams received numerous offers from foreign teams as well as an invitation from Chinese Basketball Association which were estimated to be worth $100,000. However, his family opted against playing in a foreign league. He decided to join the D-League which is the NBA’s official minor league association. He was one of the few D-League player to not be selected to any NBA teams during this season.
He played for the Thunder in the 2010 Orlando Summer League. He played in all five games, averaging 3.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per game. His best game came during the win against the Philadelphia 76ers when he scored 10 points, with 5 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots in 15 minutes off the bench. However, he didn’t receive a contract offer or an invitation to the Thunder’s training camp for the 2010–11 season.
