Gillibrand has an older brother, Douglas Rutnik, and a younger sister, Erin Rutnik Tschantret. Her maternal grandparents were businessman Peter Noonan and Dorothea “Polly” Noonan, a founder of the Albany Democratic Women’s Club and a leader of the city’s Democratic political machine.
