Under the direction of Nishi, ASCII Corporation invested heavily in American companies in the electronics sector. In 1992, ASCII Corporation was heavily in debt, and its share price plunged. Under its direction by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Industrial Bank of Japan and other banks provided bailouts to the company. It re-emerged.

ASCII Corporation became a subsidiary of Kadokawa Group Holdings in 2004, and merged with another Kadokawa subsidiary MediaWorks on April 1, 2008, and became ASCII Media Works.

Nishi’s association his relationship with Bill Gates helped ASCII Corporation to expand. MSX was a brand-new Personal Computer format that was developed jointly through Microsoft along with ASCII Corporation to cater to its Japanese market. However, after Nishi and Gates quit, and the alliance was disbanded in 1986 in 1986, and Microsoft created it own Japanese software company. However, ASCII Corporation continued to thrive.
