The public was not convinced and claimed that Cheung’s victory was rigged. The criticism went on to the point where there were polls conducted for internet users to decide if it was appropriate to hold a vote for a re- election to the title of Miss Hong Kong 2007. However, Cheung handled the pressure with grace and calmness and calm when asked about the negative comments that were made about her appearance.
Cheung participated with Cheung in Sanya, China for the Miss World 2007 pageant in December 2007. Cheung became one of the few Miss Hong Kong to win the Beauty with a Purpose award, which was based on her charitable work to The “Wai Yin Association”, an organisation for charity founded by an ex-group of Miss Hong Kong winners/participants since 1982. Cheung shared the award together with Miss Ecuador, Valeska Saab for the prize, and they both made it to the semi-finals immediately. Cheung has become the only Miss Hong Kong to make the semi-finals , since Pauline Yeung in 1987. In 2007, the Miss World 2007 title went to Zhang Zilin of the People’s Republic of China.

She was also awarded an award called the Miss Vitality Ambassador award. Cheung has stated that her goal is to be an effective host of a show and also to encourage healthy living.
The year 2005 was the time Cheung participated in Miss Chinese (Vancouver) Pageant in which she was not ranked as a contestant in the Top 3. She did win an award called the Miss Vivacious Beauty award. She was the host of the show What’s On at Fairchild Television until April 2007 when she was back in Hong Kong as an overseas contestant in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Cheung wasn’t a popular choice to win but was by no means to be a potential winner. After she was announced the winner, her reception by the public and the public was highly controversial.
In January 2008, Cheung went on to compete in the Miss Chinese International 2008 pageant where she was met again with the same criticism and was not expected to win despite being the host delegate representative. Again she broke all odds and became 1st runner up. This was again criticized as being the result of TVB’s “help.”
