Kay Davies is one of the most popular and richest Geneticist who was born on April 1, 1951 in Stourbridge, England, United Kingdom. Dame Kay Elizabeth Davies, DBE FRS FMedSci (nee Partridge; born 1 April 1951) is a British geneticist. The Professor is Dr. Lee’s at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Hertford College, Oxford. She is the director of the Medical Research Council (MRC) functional genetics division as well as a governor of the Wellcome Trust, a director of the Oxford Centre for Gene Function and Patron and Senior Member of Oxford University Scientific Society. Her research group enjoys been recognized internationally for their research into duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Since the 80s, they devised an instrument that allowed the screening of infants with mothers who have the highest risk of carrying DMD. Recently, many of her research articles were spotted by of other researchers in relation to possible fraud.

Davies continued to collaborate alongside her former husband, Stephen G. Davies on research projects even after their divorce in the year 2000. Their son is currently studying Biology in University of Edinburgh. University of Edinburgh.

She is an Honorary Fellow, Somerville College, University of Oxford. She gave the inaugural Rose Lecture at Kingston University in 2012 and delivered the Harveian Oration at the Royal College of Physicians in 2013. In 2015, she was awarded the William Allan Award by the American Society of Human Genetics. She was appointed a Patron of The SMA Trust in September 2016.

Davies was awarded the Croonian Lecture by the Royal Society in 2018 for “her achievements in developing a prenatal test for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and for her work characterising the binding partners of the protein dystrophin”.

Davies was the first Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) in

1998. She was made as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2003. Already an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and was promoted up to Dame Chief of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.

He has since been demonstrated by using mice models an up regulation of the previously expressed muscular protein could help to compensate for the absence of the dystrophin.

She has published more than 400 papers and won numerous awards for her work. She has been a Governor of the Wellcome Trust since 2008 and became Deputy chairman in 2013. She was the recipient of the Women in to Science and Engineering (WISE) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
