Kavita sings Sufi style however she can also sing Ghazal, geet and other folk songs. Through the years, she’s been on stage at live shows in London, Birmingham, Scotland, Berlin, Oslo and Stockholm and other locations all over India. It was during her performances in Muzaffar Ali’s International Sufi Festival concert, in Delhi the director Satish Kaushik was able to hear her and suggested the tune “Zindagi ko Maula”, in his film that was the Amisha Patel-starring film, Vaada (2005) which marked her first appearance as a playback vocalist. In the following year, she moved to Mumbai and this was followed by “Mujhe Mat Roko” in Anurag Basu’s Gangster (2006) which was a hit for which she received acclaim.
Apart from singing, she also composes music. She composed three songs for her role in N. Chandra’s movie “Yeh Mera India” (2009). She also has released private albums, such as, Woh Ek Lamha, Dil-e-Nadan both Sufi Ghazal albums. These were which were followed by Sufi album of music, Sufiana (2008) as well as Hazrat. The album she released in 2008 Sufiana is composed of couplets written by Sufi poetry-mystic Rumi is released in the age-old Khaman Pir Ka Dargah in Lucknow.
