In 1989, she was the winner of in 1989 the Under-18 World Youth Chess Championship (Girls) in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The same tournament also saw Bulgarian chess players Veselin Topalov and Antoaneta Stefanova Bulgarian player Veselin Topalov and Veselin World Youth Championship, and Antoaneta Stefanova took home the World Youth Championships for the Under-10 age group (Girls) which sparked an increase in interest in the game of chess in Bulgaria.
She was the President of Chess Victoria from late 2007 to November 2009.
In May 2007, Aladjova was invited as a guest dignitary and commentator for the M-Tel Masters super-GM chess tournament in Sofia, and was interviewed by the French GM Robert Fontaine for Europe Echecs.
Aladjova learned chess from her father at just six. When she was in 1989, the got married and relocated in Melbourne Australia, and took the name Katrin Aladjova-Wills. She remarried in 2011 and is now Katrin Aladjova-Kusznirczuk. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business degree from Victoria University, Australia, and is co-founder and director of “All Australia Imports” and “StreetStar Cosmetics”. Katrin serves on the board of directors for “VITS LanguageLink”. and is an Ambassador for Victorian Govt’s Vision for Language Education – Love of Language program.
