The model was nicknamed “The Peul Princess” (in reference to her ethnic Fula background) she was a model as a writer, and later, under the singular title “Katoucha”. Her father was writer playwright, historian and playwright Djibril Tamsir N’ane.
Katoucha resided in an apartment on the Seine close to the Alexander III bridge in Paris. On February 1, 2008 she returned home to her houseboat after attending a party. It marked the final time she known to be alive. On the 4th of February, 2008, the police opened the case of missing persons for her. Her purse was not found in the entrance to her boat. Police concluded that there was no evidence of foul play and she had probably been drunk when she was thrown to the Seine.
Her body was discovered by the Seine River on 28 February 2008. The model, 47, was believed to have passed away due to an accident of drowning. Fox News Channel reported the family believed Niane could be the victim of unintentional play.
