In 1992, Mayer qualified for her first position at the world championships held in Hawaii in Long Distance (3.86 km of swimming; 180.2 kilometers cycling, and 42.195 kilometers in running) and took home the title of world champion for amateurs. The year 1997 was the time she placed second at the ETU European Triathlon Long Distance Championship in Fredericia (Denmark) and was the winner of Ironman Florida 1998, and received numerous top positions at international and national triathlon as well as Ironman races.
