Demut entered at the European Athletics Indoor Championships as the athlete with the best indoor record of the season however, she was unable to perform as her previous performances and was eliminated during the heats with the best leap of 13.81 m in her performance. Demut broke her own record outdoors , soaring 14.57 meters during Wesel in June, which improved her German indoor record by 11 centimeters. She beat Helga Radtke’s previous record which been in place for nearly 17 years. She was expected to compete in the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, however, a heel strain within a week of the competition caused her to pull out and brought her season to an end.
She had three international appearances throughout 2009; she competed during the triple leap qualifying events during the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships, placed eleventh during the 2009 European Team Championships, and she then competed for Germany on her debut at the world senior level. She took part in the heats of the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin. The year before, she was crowned champion during the 2009 German Athletics Championships, improved her indoor mark to 14.06 meters and made a record- breaking jump of 14.20 meters in the outdoor arena in Ulm. Demut maintained her Indoor German title that year and won her fourth consecutive victory in the outdoor event in the 2010 German Athletics Championships. She competed for her country in the 2010 European Athletics Championships, but she was unable to make a mark for the triple jump qualifiers.

Born in Schmolln in the city of Schmolln, she started competing in the sport as a teenager as a representative of her club TuS Jena club. Her first appearance on the international stage was in the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics in which she jumped during preliminary rounds. She returned to the event in 2002 and made it to the finals with a seventh place overall.
Demut was the first athlete to win a National title in her first national championship at the German Athletics Championships 2003 and recorded a personal record of 13.74 meters that year to take fiveth position at 2003’s European Athletics U23 Championships. She was able to jump 13.96 meters at Stuttgart in February of 2004 and was runner-up in consecutive years in the German Indoor Championships in 2004 and 2005. The quiet 2006 season that she had was highlighted with her outdoor highest jump of 13.96 meters. She crossed the fourteen-meter barrier for the first time in the next year, and won the title for the nation both outdoor and indoors. Demut took home her German outdoor title once more in 2008, and was ranked sixth in the European Cup.
