Katie Edwards is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 21, 1981 in Fort Lauderdale, United States. Katie. Edwards-Walpole (born on 21 February 1981) is a Democratic politician, and was a ex-member of the Florida House of Representatives, serving in the 98th District that includes portions of Davie, Plantation, and Sunrise in the southern region of Broward County, from 2012 until the year 2018.

In the 2013 legislative session Edwards-Walpole authored legislation that would permit judges to stay clear of the mandatory minimums and make their own decisions in the case of prescription drug addicts. Under the law, addicts who were prescribed prescription drugs were treated the same in the criminal justice system as traffickers. She stated, “What my bill does is recognize that we need some discretion at the judicial level during sentencing. We need some criteria and factors in place to make sure that the person who hooked on oxycotin with 7 pills does not go to jail for three years. You guys know that person belongs either in drug court or in treatment. They don’t belong in a prison.” After a failed effort to introduce legislation to legalize the use of medical cannabis in 2013, EdwardsWalpole co-authored legislation in the 2014 session of the legislature with Republican state representative Matt Gaetz that would allow “people suffering from cancer, Lou Gehrig’s disease and other illnesses” to receive “cannabis-derived therapies rich in cannabidiol,” which otherwise would be unlawful. She also urged Gov. Rick Scott to sign the legislation, which was approved by both the legislative chambers declaring “With more than 125,000 children and 380,000 adults in Florida with severe epilepsy and other debilitating illnesses, it’s time to ease the suffering and bring relief. I urge the governor to promptly sign Senate Bill 1030 into law.”

Edwards-Walpole had more success but in 2012 her states legislative districts were redrawn in 2012 and state Representative Franklin Sands was unable to contest the re-election. She chose to run in the newly-created the 98th District which includes her home town of Plantation. The Democratic Primary, Edwards-Walpole was up against Louis Reinstein, and she received the support of the Sun-Sentinel that acknowledged both candidates as “the types of political candidates one wishes could be cloned” due to their being “compelling.” But the Sun-Sentinel eventually endorsed Edwards-Walpole noting her as an independent who was, even though she was “a safe party vote on most issues,” received the support by the National Rifle Association. Edwards- Walpole was ultimately defeated by Reinstein by a significant margin, securing 63 percent of the vote to Reinstein’s 37% and then advancing to the general election in which she was up against Republican candidate Cara Pavalock. The Sun-Sentinel supported Edwards-Walpole time, praising her for being “[e]ager, energetic and knowledgable[sic]” who could be a competent politician “without having to undergo a huge learning curve.” She was a campaigner for improving the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, giving tax credits to business to help them expand, and reducing the cost of prisons by “looking at cheaper alternatives for first-time non-violent offenders,” and not focusing on the importance of tests that are standardized. In the final one month of her primary election she was required to conduct her campaign at her bedside as she was admitted to hospital with “a major health issue” and was able to make solicitations for donations “while she was being rolled into the operating room.” In the end, Edwards-Walpole swept aside Pavalock in a decisive victory with 77% of the votes in comparison to 33% for her opponent and securing her first term as a legislator.
