Katrina Jane Allen FAHMS (born on the 24th of February, 1965) was an Australian politician and former medical researcher who was an elected representative in the House of Representatives since the 2019 federal election. She is part of the Liberal Party and represents the Division of Higgins in Victoria.

Allen has been the Liberal candidate for Prahran during this year’s Victorian state election. She was defeated to incumbent Greens MP Sam Hibbins. In February of 2019 Allen was elected to preselection in her Division of Higgins, replacing the former member Kelly O’Dwyer. The seat was retained by the Liberals at the federal election, despite having an average swing of six percent, which was enough to reduce her Liberal majority from 53 to 52 percent, which made Higgins marginal in the very first election. In addition, Higgins was also the very only Liberal contestant in Higgins to fall less than a majority on an initial count.

In 2015, Allen was named a Fellow to the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

From 1998onwards, Allen has been employed as a pediatric allergist as well as gastroenterologist in the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. She was a professor for both the University of Melbourne and University of Manchester and in 2013 , was appointed as director for the Centre of Food and Allergy Research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI). Allen was the primary researcher of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute’s “HealthNuts” study, which is “the largest single-centre population based study of food allergy in children ever mounted”. The study studies 5300 children who were diagnosed with food allergy as young children.

Allen has studied medicine during her time at Monash University, also undertaking research at the University of Cambridge, and later, she became a doctor in The Alfred Hospital. She earned a Ph.D. in The University of Melbourne in 2002. Her dissertation focused in the field of liver cells transplantation to cure Wilson’s disease.

Allen grew up in country Victoria before attending boarding school at Melbourne Girls Grammar. Her father was born on Ocean Island in the British colony of Gilbert and Ellice Islands (present-day Kiribati). She held British citizenship by descent until March 2019 when she renounced it to run for parliament.
