Clyde has been vocally opposed to the plan proposed that was proposed by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted to allow voters to register online but not give them enough opportunity to vote absentee votes. “Voting is already a confusing process, and I think this muddies it even further,” said Rep. Clyde, who was director of the Early Voting Center in Franklin County in 2008. “It discourages voting,” Clyde stated of Husted’s plan to limit the length of time that voters could vote absentee.

In 2010, when the incumbent Democrat Kathleen Chandler faced term limitations in the year 2010, Clyde was among three Democratic candidates who sought to succeed Chandler together with Sean Buchanan and Rick Hawksley. Clyde was the winner with 56.8 percent of the voters. The general election was a battle. Clyde was up against three rivals: Republican Roak Zeller, Constitution Party candidate Daniel Cartwright and Independent Richard Duncan. Clyde beat them all in the general election with 48% votes to win the seat.

She launched a bid to serve as the Ohio Secretary of State on May 16, 2017. The election will be held in 2018. On November 6, 2018 Clyde was defeated by State Senator Frank LaRose 46.7 to 50.9%.
