Katerina Giota (Greek: Katerina Giota ; born on the 3rd of July 1990 St. Petersburg, Russia) is a professional female volleyball player hailing from Greece she is part of Greece ladies’ national volleyball squad. On the club side, she is playing in the Hellenic Volley League for Greek superstar Olympiacos Piraeus since July 2013.

Since 2010, she is an active member of the Hellenic Women’s National Team with participation in the first round in the 2010 European Championship as well as she is a fundamental part of the National Squad up to now and has participated at both the Mediterranean Games of 2013 and in 2018, and in various other competitions including the preliminary rounds of the European as well as World Championships, in the European League and in many friendlies too. In the 2018 Mediterranean Games she won the silver medal in her capacity as a permanent part of the Hellenic National Team.

Since then Katerina Giota has won at international level with Olympiacos Piraeus the golden medal of the 2017–18 CEV Women’s Challenge Cup, being the best blocker of that competition with 33 winning block points and the silver medal of the 2016–17 CEV Women’s Challenge Cup as well.
In domestic competitions, Giota has won 6 Hellenic Championships and 6 Hellenic Cups, being all these years a permanent member of her squad as central blocker.

In 2006 at the age 16 Katerina Giota had been playing with Aris Thessaloniki, was selected for the Hellenic Junior Women’s National team however, the first time she made a European appearance came in the first phase of 2008’s Junior Women European Championship.

Katerina Giota, in 2002, moved along with her mum in 2002 from Russia in 2002 to Greece at the age of 12 and settled in the Greek city of Grevena which is where she was granted an Hellenic citizenship. As a child she was involved in swimming. So she continued to swim in Greece however, one day , she was noticed in the eyes of coach Memtsas and was enticed to take up volleyball. That’s how she began her long and successful career in volleyballthat would eventually lead to her becoming one of the greatest central blockers ever to play the particular sport in Greece.

In 2004, she began to join G.S. Grevena which is a club from her hometown, and where she played until 2006 when she transferred to the 1st division of A.S. Aris Thessaloniki. Two years later, she was in Aris until she was transferred to G.S. Iraklis Kifisia. Through this club Katerina Giota twice took home 3rd place at the Hellenic Championship.

In 2013 Olympiacos managed to convince Katerina Giota to be a member of the Piraeus club, after three failed attempts. Until then Giota used to wear her favourite No 13 on her shirt, in every of her previous teams. But in her new club she was told that this number does not exist in any of Olympiacos sport sections, as it represents their hot rivals from Athens. So, Katerina Giota chose the No 1 shirt, and kept the No 13 only for the Hellenic National Squad.
