Kate Hardie (born Kate Oddie born on 26th April, 1969) is an English actress from the UK. Her most well-known roles include her performances as a character in The Krays, Mona Lisa and, more recently her role in the Channel 4 original series National Treasure.

In 2006, she earned her degree in screenwriting in the National Film and Television School. She composed her short movie King of London while at the school. Then she produced two plays for the Channel 4’s Coming Up series, Imprints (2007) and Little Bill Um (2008) which was also her first directorial work.

In 2011 she wrote and directed a short film called Shoot Me starring Claire Skinner and Paul Andrew Williams and produced by Rankin.

In the world of television, her characters are The Men’s Room, Safe for which she was nominated as the RTS top TV actor and Beyond Reason. She was in Hollywood and then returned in the UK to play the role of a nurse student Karen O’Malley in the BBC drama series Casualty. The year 1998 saw her appeared in Croupier.

No formal education was required she was able to audition for her first film role on the screen in 1983’s movie Runners (written by Stephen Poliakoff , and directed by Charles Sturridge), at the age of 14 telling her parents that she’d made the decision only when she was offered the role. Hardie went on to be featured in several films which included Revolution (1985) and Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa (1986), Cry Freedom (1987), The Krays (1990), Jack and Sarah (1995), and Croupier (1998). Hardie’s stage name derives from the parents she has: Jean Hart and Bill Oddie.

Hardie was kicked out of school and her at home Hampstead, North London to reside with a boy after she turned 14. Hardie later resided together with the actor Dorian Healy for six years. She was introduced to fashion and portrait photographer Rankin (John Rankin Waddell) during a photo shoot and then got married to him in 1995. After the birth of their son and she was able to move in with fellow actor David Thewlis, and divorced Waddell in 1998. She remained in contact with Thewlis was later ended.

In 2009 she appeared in the BBC drama Criminal Justice.
