Kate Edwards (born c. 1965) is a geoscientist writer, author and content culture strategist, who is most active in cartography based on information and games with video. She served as Director of Executive for the International Game Developers Association from December 2012 until June 2017. Edwards was a decade-long employee working in various positions at Microsoft and Microsoft, including Microsoft’s Geopolitical Strategy team, and responsible for evaluating and managing geopolitical and other cultural information within software applications. Following her departure from Microsoft she established Englobe (now Geogrify) as an agency for consulting on strategies and culturalization of content specifically in the field of video games.

Edwards was named as the one of “The 10 Most Powerful Women In Gaming” in 2013 by Fortune and in 2014 she was named among the gaming industry’s top six “People of the Year”.

Edwards will receive the Ambassador Award at the 20th Game Developers Choice Awards in March 2020 for her past work in the IGDA and current work in the Global Game Jam.

Edwards was the co-founder and chairperson of the Game Localization Special Interest Group (SIG) within the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) as well as an IGDA board member of the IGDA Seattle chapter. Edwards was presented with the IGDA’s 2011 MVP Award for her service to the organization and the gaming industry. She was named as the director-general of the International Game Developers Association after Gordon Bellamy moved on from the post. Edwards quit the IDGA in the year 2017.

Edwards conceived of the 50 Over 50 List to showcase games developers who were over the age of 50, and “as a response to the reality that ageism is a rampant problem in the game industry and within the broader technology sector.” The yearly list was first published in 2018.
