Courtney was first introduced to cycling as a child by her father. They were able to ride their mountain bikes to Mount Tamalpais together. Her enthusiasm for cycling was stimulated when, in her freshman year she joined the school’s mountain cycling squad at Branson High School. In high school, Courtney competed for the USA National Team and Whole Athlete Development Team at events all over the World. The year 2012 was the year that Courtney was the very first American female to be the winner of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in the Junior category.
In the year 2018, Courtney took part in the Cape Epic Stage race with her Specialized teammate Annika Langvad. Together, they took home seven stages in total and won the overall Team victory.
After finishing her studies at Stanford University in 2017, Courtney began full-time racing and during her first full season in 2017, she won 4 U23 World Cups and the U23 World Cup overall title as well as an overall silver medal during the U23 world championship. Courtney is also double US cross country (XC) championships, having taken the title in 2017 and in 2018. Courtney took part in the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and won an elite gold medal for women in the cross-country race. It was the first success for an American since 2001.
