Tucker was the very first female executed by the State of Texas in 135 years at the time Chipita Rodriguez was hanged on 1863, during the American Civil War, and the second woman executed in the United States since the reinstatement of capital punishment in 1976.

After having a fun-filled weekend with drugs along with Garrett and his acquaintances, Tucker and Garrett entered Jerry Dean’s home at Houston, Texas around 3 a.m. on the 13th of June 1983, in the hopes of stealing the motorbike that Dean was restoring in the area. James Liebrandt, a friend was with them when they went into Dean’s complex. Liebrandt said he was in search of Dean’s El Camino while Tucker and Garrett went into the apartment with keys, which Tucker said Shawn Dean had lost and Tucker discovered.

She was executed by lethal injection on February 3, 1998. As the deadly chemicals were being administered, she praised Jesus Christ, licked her lips, looked at the ceiling, and hummed. She was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m. C.S.T., eight minutes after receiving the injection. She was buried at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

On February 2, 1998, state authorities took Tucker from the unit in Gatesville and flew her on a TDCJ aircraft, transporting her to the Huntsville Unit. For her last meal, Tucker requested a banana, a peach, and a garden salad with ranch dressing.

On September 23, 1983, Tucker along with Garrett were accused of murder and were was tried separately for the murders. Tucker was accused of the murders of Dean and Thornton however, after she admitted to testifying against Garrett during court, charges of killing of Thornton was dismissed. Garrett was not charged with the death of Thornton also. Tucker accepted an unconstitutional plea and was detained in jail awaiting the trial. When she was released, Tucker took a Bible from the prison ministry program and began reading inside her prison cell. Later, she recalled “I didn’t know what I was reading. Before I knew it, I was in the middle of my cell floor on my knees. I was just asking God to forgive me.” Tucker began to become a Christian in the month of October 1983. She later got married through the proxy of her prison minister Reverend Dana Lane Brown, in 1995. She she held the Christian wedding ceremony in the prison.

Karla Faye Tucker (November 18 1959 – – February 3 (February 3, 1998) was an American woman executed for the murder of two persons with an axe during an armed robbery. Tucker is the very first person executed within the United States since Velma Barfield in 1984, and also the first executed in Texas after Chipita Rodriguez’s execution in 1863. She was found guilty for murder in Texas in 1984 and sentenced with lethal injections after 14 years in prison on death row. Because of her gender and the widespread change to Christianity her conversion to Christianity sparked an extraordinary worldwide movement for the change in her conviction to life in prison without parole. At the age of 12, she was using drugs and having sexual relations. She quit school at 14 and began following her mother Carolyn the rock groupie who was prostitution-related, and started travelling along with Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, and the Eagles. When she was 16 she was briefly wed to a mechanic called Stephen Griffith. As she entered her 20s, she started going out with bikers, and also met a woman whose name was Shawn Dean and her husband Jerry Lynn Dean. They introduced her to a man called Daniel Ryan Garrett (Danny Garrett). At the age of 21, Tucker started dating 35-year-old Garrett.

Though the death penalty was hardly ever sought for female killers, Tucker, along with Garrett, was sentenced to death in late 1984. Garrett died of liver disease in 1993 while awaiting execution. Tucker shared her death row cell at the Mountain View Unit with Pam Perillo, whose own sentence was eventually commuted.
