Karen Redman, PC (nee Longo born January 8 1953) is a Canadian politician from Canada. She was an elected participant in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 until 2008 serving in the constituency in Kitchener Centre for the Liberal Party. She was Chief Government Whip during the 2004-05 parliament, as well as the Chief Opposition Whip during the 2006-08 Parliament. The election that she lost was 2008’s federal election. She was elected to the Waterloo Regional Council in the 2014 municipal elections and is currently Chair of the Waterloo Regional Council. Waterloo Regional Chair.
Redman was the secretary to the parliamentary committee in the Ministry of the Environment from 2000 until 2003. She was appointed Chief Government Whip and was sworn in the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada on July 20, 2004 an important position in a minority-controlled government. After the Liberal defeat in the election of 2006 she was appointed the Chief Whip of Opposition.
On November 17, 2009, upon a reconstitution of the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition under Chief of Staff Peter Donolo, Redman was named Caucus Liaison, a role drawing on her “strong and deep ties with her former – and future – caucus colleagues.”
Redman was renominated as the federal Liberal candidate for the riding of Kitchener Centre in the 2011 election, yet lost again to Conservative Stephen Woodworth.
She was first elected to the parliament during the 1997 federal election in which she defeated the former Progressive Conservative MP John Reimer by more than 10,000 votes. She was elected again by comfortably large margins during the elections of 2000, 2004 and 2006.

Redman is a native of Kitchener, Ontario. After finishing the high school curriculum with the Eastwood Collegiate Institute, Redman was able to attend the University of Waterloo, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in English in 1974. Later, she employed as a writer and was a part of both the Kitchener- Waterloo Learning Disabilities Association and the Canadian Federation of University Women. She has served as an elder at Kitchener’s St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church since 1991.
Redman was trustee on the Waterloo County Board of Education from 1988 until 1994, and also served as a city councillor on his city council for the Kitchener City Council and the Regional Municipality of Waterloo from 1994 until 1997.
In the 2008 federal election, she lost to Stephen Woodworth of the Conservative Party of Canada by 339 votes.
