Davies is a native of Wrexham, Wales. Her first fame came in the amateur game when she took home in the Welsh Girls Championship in 1980 and 1982.
Davies went to her time at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, United States in the United States, where she was a member of Coach Mimi Ryan’s Florida Gators women’s golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1985 until 1988. When she was playing for Florida she was the team’s individual Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion in 1986. She also she led the Gators team to two consecutive NCAA champions both in 1985 and in 1986, and also set the record for the most college events held with nine. Davies was named one of the SEC freshman of the Year in 1985, and the SEC Player of the Year for 1987 she was also a 4 time First-Team All- SEC participant (1985-1988) and three-time All-American on the first team (1986-1988). In between her college playing seasons in golf, she was a member for one of the winning Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup teams in 1986 and 1988.
