Karen Clark Sheard is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on November 15, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. The Clark Sheard family was founded by Karen Valencia Clark on November 15 1960. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of the reverend Elbert Clark as well as Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, a pioneering gospel choir director. The smallest among six kids, Clark Sheard’s siblings are Leo, Jacky, Denise, Elbernita “Twinkie” and Dorinda. Clark-Sheard began singing gospel along with her sisters at the age of six in what was later referred to by the name The Clark Sisters. As a high school student, Clark-Sheard was a student at Mumford High School in Detroit, Michigan; graduating in 1979.

Following Yolanda Adams’s departure, Clark-Sheard became the second gospel artist to sign with Elektra Records. The singer-songwriter released her Elektra debut album 2nd Chance in 2002 (so named due to it being the “second chance” she was granted by God after a near-death encounter and is a reference in her daughter’s single “You Don’t Know”). The album was introduced by the hit single “Be Sure” and though Clark-Sheard was at her best in her voice, the smooth and modern sound on the album did not go over well with the gospel scene. The album did well both critically and commercially and reached the top spot of the U.S. Billboard 200, #27 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart (her most charting on those chart to date) and second in the U.S. Billboard Gospel Albums.

In 2005, after a bidding war with several labels, Clark-Sheard finally signed with Word Records and issued It’s Not Over, (Originally titled Finally Karen Returns), the sequel to her 1997 debut album Finally Karen was set to be released November 15, 2005, Clark-Sheard’s 45th birthday, but was delayed and released the following year. Most of It’s Not Over was recorded live in 2005 at Karen’s home church in Detroit, Michigan while the last three tracks were studio-recorded.

It was Clark-Sheard’s first solo album not to feature guest vocals from her daughter (Kierra Sheard) and was the first to include production from Israel Houghton – who handled the majority of the project. Despite having a much grander sound than her previous albums, it was another critical success for Karen and charted modestly at #124 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and #4 on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. As the songwriter, on February 10, 2008, Clark-Sheard won the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song for “Blessed & Highly Favored” sung by The Clark Sisters.

In 2001, Clark Sheard was confronted with a potentially life-threatening emergency after a blood vessel ruptured during a scheduled bariatric procedure. The doctors gave her a chance of 2% of survival because of her medical complications. Following the surgical removal of the blood clot, eliminated she was placed in an induced state of coma. The coma lasted for three two weeks, however Clark-Sheard claims she made remarkable recovery.
