Before being elected the minister of science, research as well as technology Daneshjoo served as the director of the Country’s Election Headquarters for the 2009 Iranian presidential election. The opposition accuses him of members of being one of the people who orchestrated election fraud.

On the 22nd September 2009 Nature, the renowned British journals of science, revealed the fact that “large chunks of text, figures, and tables in a 2009 paper co-authored by Kamran Daneshjou, Iran’s science minister, are identical to those of a 2002 paper published by South Korean researchers”. On September 25, 2009 Springer The publisher Daneshjou’s work had submitted, has withdrawn the its paper by the Iranian science minister. Similar plagiarism was discovered in three other papers written by Daneshjou. Iranian scientists have said they plan to pursue an investigation into plagiarism. A paper to which he claimed credit was later withdrawn from Engineering with Computers.

It was also reported by the Mehr News Agency on 30 August 2009 that, following a probe into Daneshjoo’s background during his ministerial nomination procedure, the chairman of the Education Committee of Iran’s parliament, Ali Abbaspour-Tehrani announced: “He [Kamran Daneshjoo] does not have a PhD, neither from London’s Imperial College nor from the Amirkabir University.”
