He is an active part of the Czech Astronomical Society. Since 2007, he has been an astronomer professional on Ondrejov Observatory. Ondrejov Observatory.

At the end of summer 2002, Hornoch made a number of photographs of the area of the central region of the Andromeda Galaxy and discovered his first extragalactic nova. Since then, galaxy M31 is now his favorite location to study and has led to 43 nova discoveries and discoveries with co-discoveries within the region (as as of April 2007). He also found two novae in the M81 galaxy in images made by Czech Astronomer Pavel Cagas with his 26.5 cm (10.4 in) reflector telescope on the 8 and 11 of April 2007. The discovery of a nova was the first achieved using a tiny telescope at this distance prior to. One of the novae, M81 2007, 3, became very bright with an absolute magnitude of -10 and an the apparent magnitude 17.6 just six days after the discovery. It was the most brilliant nova that was ever found in M81.
