Kaliese Spencer Carter (born 6 May 1987) is an Jamaican athletes in track and field, who specializes in the 400m hurdles. Spencer is an official Commonwealth Games champion in 2014 and also a two-time silver medallist in the 2014. IAAF World Indoor Championships. She placed fourth in the both 2009 World Championships in Athletics and the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. In 2006, she was also the World Junior champion.

She made an impact in the Diamond League, finishing as second in front of Lashinda Demus in the Prefontaine Classic and the Golden Gala and registering an individual best of 53.48 seconds. Her first victory came on the main circuit at the British Grand Prix. She won at the Herculis meeting soon after and also set a meet record of 53.72 seconds at the Spitzenleichtathletik competition in Switzerland. Her personal record of the 400m high hurdles, which was 52.79 in the Aviva Grand Prix in Crystal Palace on the 5th of August in 2011. This meant that she was a huge favorite to take home the Gold medal at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea.

Spencer began participating at the IAAF Golden League in 2009 and competed at events like the Reebok Grand Prix, Golden Gala and Herculis events, but she did not make it to the top of the podium at those events. In 2009, at the World Championships, Spencer reached the final of the women’s 400m hurdles, and placed fourth with a personal record of 53.56 seconds. Her club colleague Melaine Walker was awarded the gold in a record for the championship. Spencer was also the replacement for the 4x400m relay during the championships. She helped her team reach the final where they claimed an Olympic silver medal. She won over Walker just a few minutes later during the IAAF Zagreb Grand Prix. Spencer finished her season by taking home a silver medal at the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Final, taking 53.99 seconds, finishing behind Walker.

The Spencer family was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, her mother, Merfelin Spencer was a 400m runner at the time of her college graduation as was her dad Joshua Spencer was a middle-distance runner. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place in the 400 m hurdles. She did, however, win the gold medal in the event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
