From 2017 until 2019 she was in the position as Mayor for Gibraltar following her previous stint as Deputy Mayor from 2014.
Aldorino achieved a milestone on December 12, 2009 as the first Miss Gibraltar to be crowned Miss World. She also became the very first Gibraltarian contestant to reach the semifinals of any of the most prestigious international pageants, after being awarded the honorary title Miss World Beach Beauty.
Aldorino was born and raised in Gibraltar. Prior to becoming Miss Gibraltar 2009, she had been working as a human resources clerk at St Bernard’s Hospital for five years. Aldorino was raised bilingually, speaking both English and Spanish, like most Gibraltarians.
Aldorino previously was a beauty pageant titleholder, being crowned Miss Gibraltar 2009, and later winning Miss World 2009 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She was the first Gibraltarian woman ever to reach the semifinals of a major international pageant, and is the only to ever win one, as well.
On December 15, 2009 HM Government of Gibraltar announced that Aldorino was scheduled to fly to Gibraltar from London by a private aircraft the next day in the afternoon. On the 16th of December 2009, the government released an announcement in the press that it explained the events expected to occur upon the arrival of Aldorino. This included a welcome to the public at Gibraltar Airport as well as the parade down Main Street where Aldorino would take a ride within the same as Diana the Princess of Wales and Prince Charles during their honeymoon trip to Gibraltar. On 17 December 2009 Aldorino was paraded through Main Street preceded by the band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, and was then seen on the City Hall balcony. The event was followed by the press conference followed by a dinner at The Rock Hotel. The celebrations concluded by a spectacular fireworks display that came from Gibraltar Harbour. The government also asked all businesses located in Gibraltar that were in a position to do so , to shut down between 4pm and 6pm the day of celebrations so that their employees could participate in the welcome celebrations.
