Meera (born 19 February 1970) is an Indian writer, that writes her work in Malayalam. Her birthplace was Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala. She was an editor in Malayala Manorama however, she later quit to focus on writing. She began working on fiction writing in 2001, and her first collection of short stories Ormayude Njarambu was released in 2002. Since then, she has released five short story collections and novellas, as well as five novels, and two books for children. She received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for her short story, Ave Maria. The book Aarachaar (2012) is considered to be one of the finest literary works created in the Malayalam language. It received several awards including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (2013), Odakkuzhal Award (2013), Vayalar Award (2014) and Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award (2015). In addition, it was selected for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.

Aarachaar widely regarded as her greatest work, first serialized by Madhyamam Weekly and was published as the book DC Books in 2012. It is set in Bengal The novel describes the life of an executioner family with a long lineage starting with the fourth century BC. The protagonist in the novel, Chetna, is a determined and strong woman who tries to become the next generation of the position. According to the noted writer M. Leelavathy, Aarachaar is among the top literature works made in Malayalam and continues the tradition that was left by O. V. Vijayan’s classic novel Khasakkinte Itihasam. The novel won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. It also won the famous Odakkuzhal Award in 2013, Vayalar Award in 2014, and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015. Aarachaar is translated in English in the hands of J. Devika as The Hangwoman. This novel is sold over 38000 copies (as of January 2015). This novel has been translated from English from the original English by J. Devika under the title Hangwoman The Book Everyone Loves: A Good hanging (Hamish Hamilton 2014). Hangwoman was nominated for the highly coveted DSC Prize for South Asian Literature in 2016. Her most recent book Sooryane Aninja Oru Stree has been published in Vanitha magazine.

Her earlier books comprise Aa Maratheyum Marannu Marannu Njan Meera Saadhu Nethronmeelanam as well as Yudasinte Suvishesham. Meera Sadhu (DC Books 2008) is the tale of the story of an IIT graduate who is stranded at the Krishna temple after experiencing many difficult times during her marriage. The five short novellas have been combined into a single volume titled Meerayude Novellakal (2014).
