K. G. Bopaiah is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 17, 1955 in Madikeri, Karnataka, India. K. G. Bopaiah was born into the Kodagu Gowda (Arebashe Gowda) family on the 17th of October, 1955 in Kalur which is a small town close to Madikeri in the Kodagu district. Bopaiah is the 2nd child of Kombarana Ganapathy and Chinnamma. He attended his primary school at the Kalur Government Primary School. He attended Chettalli in Somwarpet Taluk to attend high school. He earned the BSc diploma from the Government Senior College (now, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College) at Somwarpet in 1974. After having completed his BSc and BSc, he enrolled in his first BMS College in Bangalore to learn about law. After completing his degree in law, as an athlete with a gold medal in 1980, he returned Madikeri in 1980 and began practicing law.

He was the pro tem Speaker following the BJP election and administered the an oath to all lawmakers in the Legislative Assembly. In the following year, he was elected an Deputy Speaker for the Legislative Assembly. On December 30, 2009, he was elected President of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly following the resignation of the speaker before him, Jagadish Shettar. The Speaker’s election however, took place amid chaos as opposition parties demanded that the elections delayed due to the demise of Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan. But, the government went ahead with the elections and K.G. Bopaiah was elected Speaker, beating out his Opposition Candidate, T.B. Jayachandra who is a member of the Indian National Congress. He was the very first from the Kodagu district to be elected the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

He is currently a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He was chosen as the pro-term speaker by the Governor of Karnataka for the floor test held on 19 May 2018.

He was appointed General Secretary to the Kodagu district section within the BJP and then elevated to president in the early 1990s. In 2004 He was elected an MLA for the Madikeri constituency as an BJP candidate. He was elected to another term as an BJP candidate from the Virajpet district after the delimitation exercise cut the number of places that were in Kodagu district to just two from 3.

Kombarana Ganapathy Bopaiah (born 17 October 1955) is an Indian politician who was speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is the leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was appointed pro-tem speaker of the Legislative Assembly by the Governor of Karnataka.

He was closely linked to his local Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as well as his fellow members of the Sangh Parivar since his childhood. He was also an active participant in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in his college years. He was a part of the protests to stop the Kambadakada dam project in Kodagu which was a government initiative during the 70s. He was detained in the Emergency in Bangalore and imprisoned alongside hundreds of other activists who opposed the project.

In October 2011, 11 disgruntled MLAs of the ruling BJP along with some independent MLAs revolted against the leadership of B.S. Yeddyurappa and submitted a letter to the Governor withdrawing their support to the BJP Government. In a controversial move, Speaker Bopaiah disqualified the rebel MLAs and thus played a major role in the survival of the BJP Government in Karnataka. Although his decision was upheld by the Karnataka High Court, it was overturned by the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court criticised the Speaker for the haste with which he had acted during the trust vote.
