Salas was a contestant against Thiago Tavares on the 9th of November in 2013 at UFC Fight Night 32, in place of injured Quinn Mulhern. He was defeated by submission in the first round.

Salas comes originally from Green River, Wyoming and was a highly successful athlete in the sport of wrestling. Salas was twice State Champion in high school as well as the two time high school All-American and receiving the Dave Schultz High School Hall of Fame Award. Salas was then able to compete for Wyoming University’s NCAA Division I program from 2000 until 2003, but left the school to pursue the career of mixed martial art.
