Justin Anthony Knapp (born November 18th 1982) also known as Koavf Knapp, is an American Wikipedia user who was the first to make more than a million changes to Wikipedia. In March 2020, Knapp has contributed more than 2 million edits to English Wikipedia. In August of 2016 Knapp had contributed to and submitted two articles that were classified as “featured articles” which he declared to be “the highest quality of article on Wikipedia”. He was ranked as No. one among active Wikipedia contributors between March 18, 2012 until the 1st of November, 2015, when the number was surpassed by Steven Pruitt.

Knapp announced the millionth edit he had made on Wikipedia on April 19th the 19th of April, 2012. He was submitting an average of 385 edits per day since joining in March 2005. When asked about his accomplishments, he wrote: “Being suddenly and involuntarily unemployed will do that to you.” Margaret Ferguson, an associate professor of political science at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis and one of Knapp’s teachers told me that she was not impressed by his commitment for editing Wikipedia. The year 2012 was the time that Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales felicitated Knapp for his efforts and awarded him the highest honor on Wikipedia for his accomplishment, declaring that the 20th of April would have been Justin Knapp Day. In an interview by Business Insider, Knapp said that “there is no typical day” regarding his Wikipedia editing and the “go-to edits are small style and typo fixes.” He also stated that the decline in Wikipedia editors “not necessarily a problem.”

In 2005, during the United Nations Sixtieth General Assembly, Knapp advocated for the Sahrawi people and addressed the conditions of the Sahrawi people in Western Sahara. Knapp also participated in community organizing to organize the Restore the Fourth rally in 2013.
