The relationship between Kauflin and Clark Terry was depicted in the documentary Keep On Keepin’ On The film had its debut in the Tribeca Film Festival April 2014 and was awarded each of the Heineken Audience and Best New Documentary Director Awards. Kauflin is the one who composed the score of the film alongside Dave Grusin.

After completing an extensive CD release world tour for Coming Home (Jan-Feb 2019) Justin is currently working on original film scores and new music for 2 very different albums, as well as being on faculty for several jazz camps.

In 2011 Kauflin was performing in his trio and also with The Jae Sinnett Trio in clubs across Virginia and across the nation. He was awarded the VSA International Young Soloist Award and was a semifinalist for the Thelonious Monk Competition in 2011 and was voted “Jazz Artist of the Year” in VEER magazine. He was then employed to work with Quincy Jones. In 2013 and 2014, he was a part of Jones’s tour that included Switzerland, France, Korea and Japan. He was a part of Jones to record the song Dedication (2015). After the album’s release, his group played at concert, festivals, and club venues across Europe as well as America.
