Jure Franko ( listen (help *information ) ) (born 29 March 1952 from Nova Gorica) is a Slovenian-Yugoslav former Alpine skier, most famous for his huge slalom silver medal in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
In January of 2006, Jure Franko was a participant at his participation in the Winter Olympic torch relay, by transferring the torch across Slovenia to Italy near the Slovenian-Italian border located in Nova Gorica. He also organized an excursion for 43 kids with modest financial backgrounds who hail from Sarajevo, Nova Gorica and Gorizia to the massive Slalom race during in the Winter Olympic games in Turin, Italy.
Jure Franko was born was raised at Nova Gorica, a city located in Slovenia near close proximity to Italy. Franko participated in super giant slalom competitions and reached the peak of his ski career during his 1983-84 seasons. On February 14th, 1984, during the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo He took home a silver medal for giant slalom. It was his only Winter Olympics medal ever for Yugoslavia. Franko was placed in the fourth spot after the initial leg of the huge slalom and ran the fastest time in the second race, which brought him into second place overall (Max Julen of Switzerland won the gold).
