Jun Azumi (An Zhu Chun , Azumi Jun, born 17 January 1962) is a Japanese politician belonging to the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) as well as an elected representative of Japan’s House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislative body). He was elected deputy secretary-general for the DPJ on the 24th of September, 2012.
Azumi worked for NHK’s public radio station NHK from 1985 until 1993. The Japanese politician ran for House of Representatives for the first time in 1993, as the sole independent (Japan New Party as well as New Party Harbinger endorsement) in the three-member Miyagi 2nd district. He lost because there were two Liberal Democrats as well as a Socialist took the district to the traditional parties. Later, he was a part of the New Party Harbinger and participated in the founding of the DPJ in the year 1996. The DPJ was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time as an independent Democratic candidate during the election of 1996 in the unicameral Miyagi fifth district.
