Julie Pietri (born 1 May 1955, Algiers, Algeria) is an Algerian French pop artist, best known for her single “Eve leve-toi”, which was the top-ranked single in the French SNEP Singles Chart (Top 50) in November of 1986 (also made available in English, under the name “Listen to Your Heart”).

The year 1982 was when Pietri achieved success when she released “Je veux croire”, the post-disco tune featuring gospel-like sounding vocals. Then, she had success with the French version of The Kinks’ hit song “I go to sleep” and which was retitled “Et c’est comme si”.

In 1986, the singer returned to music using her complete name, Julie Pietri, and scored a French number one hit with “Ève lève-toi”. She re-recorded the song in English as “Listen to your heart”.

Le Premier Jour, her new album, was co-written by the singer. In December 1987, the song “Nuit sans issue” was released at the same time of the album release, composed by Vincent-Marie Bouvot. A few months later, she participated in a charity song with other artists for the boat people in Southeast Asia : “Dernier Matin d’Asie”. In December, the singer gave a series of concerts at the Olympia, followed by a tour through France. She sang “Nouvelle Vie”, the second hit off the album, and did a cover version of “Non, je ne regrette rien” by Édith Piaf and “La vie ne m’apprend rien by Daniel Balavoine.

In the latter part of 1979 Julie got the chance to sing her hit song “Magdalena”. It was a hit, allowing Julie to record her debut album of her own in 1980, with the help by French music composer Jean Schultheis and lyricist Jean-Marie Moreau. The year was 1981 when she performed to her first appearance on the stage at the Olympia with Sacha Distel. Attracted by her voice, she was invited by him to take part in his show and perform with him on two songs in duets.

Pietri was born in Algeria and spent the initial five years in Algeria. In 1962, as a result of the gains of independence for Algeria her family was forced to leave France. Then she decided to move back in North Africa, in Casablanca. In the following years she made the choice to reside at Le Pecq, in Saint Germain en Laye suburb.
