Julian Savulescu (born 22 December 1963) is an Australian bioethicist and philosopher. Savulescu has been named the Uehiro Professor of Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford, Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford and Director of Oxford’s Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics and the Sir Louis Matheson Distinguished Visiting Professor at Monash University, and Head of the Melbourne-Oxford Stem Cell Collaborative that is dedicated to investigating the ethical issues associated with cloning and the research into embryonic stem cells. He was the editor and committee member for the Journal of Medical Ethics (2001-2004 and 2011-2018) The journal is ranked among an No.1 Journal in Bioethics globally in Google Scholar Metrics in 2013. Alongside his expertise in philosophical and applied ethics as well, he has a medical background and has completed the MBBS (Hons) from Monash University.

Additionally as the editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics, He published, in 2012, a paper written by two Italian academics who claimed that a newborn baby is in essence nothing different from foetus. It isn’t considered a “person” and, morally it is able to be killed by the discretion of parents, etc.

In 2009 the professor Savulescu presented a talk at the “Festival for Dangerous Ideas’ in Sydney Opera House. Sydney Opera House in October 2009, titled “Unfit for Life: Genetically Enhance Humanity or Face Extinction,” that can be watched on Vimeo. Savulescu claims that humanity is at risk of disappearing within the metaphorical “Bermuda Triangle” until humans are willing to undergo’moral enhancement’.
