Julian Fernando Casablancas (born August 23, 1978) is an American singer, musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the lead singer and primary songwriter of American rock band The Strokes. He also released a solo album, Phrazes for the Young, in 2009. In the same year, he founded the independent label Cult Records, which currently represents artists such as The Growlers, Rey Pila, and Karen O. He later formed the band The Voidz in 2013, with whom he has released two albums; Tyranny (2014) and Virtue (2018).
Upon meeting future guitarist Nick Valensi and drummer Fab Moretti at Dwight School in Manhattan, the three began to play music together. He reconnected with guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. when the latter moved to New York. The band was formed in 1998 when Hammond was accepted into the band, with Casablancas as the lead vocalist and main songwriter and Nikolai Fraiture on bass.
He got married Juliet Joslin on February 5 2005. In 2010 they welcomed a child called Cal Casablancas. They then welcomed another daughter, Zephyr, in 2015.
