Juli Furtado is one of the most popular and richest Sport Cyclist who was born on April 4, 1967 in New York City, United States. Born on April 4th 1967, her parents are Portuguese and came from Sao Miguel Island. She began skiing at the age two, and was racing by age 9 when her family relocated to Vermont and in which Furtado was a student at her school, the Stratton Mountain School.

Furtado was admitted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1993, and was also inducted into in the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2005.

She became the mother of a son in 2008, and is currently working again with the U.S. National ski team, as an advocate for retiring athletes.

Her designs were eventually picked up by Santa Cruz Bikes. At the same time, Santa Cruz Bikes developed the first female specific cross-country aluminum MTB called the “Juliana”. Furtado became the director of grass-roots sponsorship and marketing for Santa Cruz Bicycles, in Santa Cruz, California. In 2013, Furtado developed the concept for turning the single Juliana frame and associated components into a complete line of fully outfitted women’s mountain bikes, which would be a first for Santa Cruz Bikes, which is primarily a frame producer. The Juliana line has 5 models comprising one of the world’s largest women’s MTB ranges in the industry.

The year 1989 was her very first year of competition, Furtado won the US National Road Championship. She was then introduced mountain biking. In 1990, her second year of competition, she took home the cross-country competition at (along together with Ned Overend) the first official Mountain Bike World Championship, held in Durango, Colorado. In 1992, she was awarded the world championship for downhill. The following year, Furtado took home two championships: the World Cup (her 3rd WC championship) as well as the NORBA (U.S. National race authority) cross-country championships. She also took part at the Atlanta Olympics. Sadly, even though she was the most popular choice for the win, she was afflicted in the extreme Atlanta scorching heat and sun due to an undiagnosed Lupus within her body and was able to finish with an unusually slow 7th place. After a short time, Lupus was discovered, and it was confirmed that Furtado was forced to take early retirement from the sport due to physical issues. Her condition is now under control and she races on her own.

Juliana “Juli” Furtado (born on April 4, 1967, at New York City) is a retired American professional mountain biker who began her professional career by skiing.

At the age of 15, she was the youngest member on the U.S. National ski team and was a member from 1982 until 1987. After several knee surgeries and surgeries, her hopes of participating in the Olympics were put to a halt, and she enrolled at the University of Colorado Boulder on an athletic scholarship. There, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Marketing. When she was racing for CU the knee injury caused her to quit racing, and Juliana decided to switch to cycling.
