Juice Leskinen Biography

Juice Leskinen is one of the most popular and richest Singer- Songwriter who was born on February 19, 1950 in Juankoski, Northern Savonia, Finland. Juhani Juice Leskinen (formerly Pauli Matti Juhani “Juice” Leskinen) was more commonly referred to as Juice Leskinen (pronounced”‘juise”leskinen[‘juise ‘leskinen] ( Listen ) , (unlike the English word juice) 19 February 1950 until 24 November 2006) was one of the most well- known Finnish musician-singer of the last decade of the 20th century. In the early 1970s and beyond, there were more than 30 albums of full length, and also wrote lyrics for scores of Finnish musicians. Many of the songs of Leskinen have been deemed classic within Finnish pop music. e.g., “Viidestoista yo”, “Kaksoiselamaa” and “Syksyn savel”. The early recordings are regarded as the basis of the known as Manserock movement in the late 1970s. Apart from his musical output, he widened his writing and poetry with nine books of verse and seven plays.

Leskinen passed away in the year 2006 following a bout of chronic kidney diseases, such as cirrhosis, and diabetes. He was buried in the Kalevankangas cemetery in Tampere close to his main entrance.

He was ranked 38th place in the survey of 100 Greatest Finns held during the summer of 2004.

After making the move to Tampere to pursue studies in the year the year 1970 Leskinen was able to begin his professional career with the self-titled debut album by Juice Leskinen & Coitus Int. Another album, Per Vers, runoilija which was released under the same name however, from that point on there were records that he released with various lineups, including Juice Leskinen’s Slam, and Juice The Grand Slam of Juice Leskinen, which he released from the late 1970s through the mid-80s. While focusing more on poetry in the early 90s Leskinen kept releasing new music every couple of years, despite his declining health, caused through unhealthy lifestyle routines. After the longest break in his music career, L marked Leskinen’s 50th birthday in 2000. His most recent album, Senaattori ja boheemi (released in 2004) is an album with Mikko Alatalo. It’s a re-entry to their relationship from the 1970s. He composed “Nuku pommiin” in 1982 for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Leskinen has been diagnosed as having Asperger’s syndrome at the early 2000s.

Leskinen has gained a considerable amount of posthumous recognition. A musical about Leskinen, titled Juice – taiteilijaelämää (an artist’s life) premiered in Tampere on 30 August 2011. In 2015, two film companies announced plans for biography films. One of them was cancelled. In 2014 a biography of Leskinen was published, written by Antti Heikkinen, and named Risainen elämä.
