Niemack has written and released an entire set of three widely well-respected method books on jazz singing, including He has also written the Hear It and Sing It! series. The most prominent vocal students of Niemack’s include Dominique Lacasa, Marc Secara, Efrat Alony, Lucia Cadotsch and Erik Leuthauser. Niemack has composed lyrics for more than 100 compositions of Thelonious Monk Bill Evans, Richie Beirach, Pat Metheny and Kenny Dorham (among others) that have been recorded on several albums.
While in New York, Niemack met guitarist Jeanfrancois Prins; the two were to marry in 1998. In 1992, Niemack moved to Brussels and began teaching vocal jazz at Brussels’s Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, and the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. The couple recorded numerous CDs and performed often. In 1995 , the couple relocated to Berlin where she became the first professor in the field of Jazz Voice in Germany, teaching at the Hochschule fur Musik “Hanns Eisler” (later known as the Jazz Institut Berlin) and in addition, she established The vocal jazz course at Musikene Musicene, which is which is the Basque School of Higher Music located situated in San Sebastian, Spain (2003-2015). Judy Niemack was born in Pasadena, California to a musical family. Her first singing experience was in the choir of the church from age seven. Niemack decided to pursue a singing career at 17 and began studying Bel canto singing with Primo Lino Puccinelli in Pasadena for three years. She was a classical voice student as well as jazz improvisation under Gary Foster at Pasadena City College as well as later attending in the New England Conservatory of Music as well as at the Cleveland Institute of Music. After studying classical music up to 1975, she went back to California to learn about jazz improvisation with Marsh (who was someone she first met). Niemack later moved into New York City in 1977 Her first big performance was a few days at The Village Vanguard, singing in Warne Marsh’s band.
Her first album By Heart was recorded in New York City and released in 1977. Since then she has released the following 12 studio albums as her personal name, in along with performing alongside Toots Thielemans James Moody, Lee Konitz, Clark Terry, Kenny Barron, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, Joe Lovano, Eddie Gomez and the WDR Big Band (among others).
