Audrey Joy Grant, CMG (born 1951 British Honduras) is the Governor of the Central Bank of Belize. She was previously a Belizean Senator and was the director of Belize’s Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology, and Public Utilities. When she began her career working in economic development projects she turned into an environmentalist and developed numerous projects across all of the Caribbean region to safeguard the marine and forest ecosystems.

in 1989 Grant was back in Belize to lead a conservation effort which was funded through the Massachusetts Audubon Society with help from the Nature Conservancy and US scientists. Project, Programme for Belize was founded with Grant and she was the first executive director. The project acquired more than 300,000 acres (4 percent of Belize’s total land mass) of rain forest in the tropical forests as Reserve for this project. In the early days conservation programs were at their beginnings and she was awarded two sustainable certifications for her ecoforestry program made of Belizean mahogany. After more than a decade working for the Programme for Belize, in 2001, Grant became Vice President and Director for the Atlantic Conservation Region of the Nature Conservancy. She was responsible for conservation efforts across twenty of the states in the eastern part in the US and 10 Central American and Caribbean countries and, in 2003, started a project to develop an entire program that covered all of the Caribbean marine basin, from Cuba all the way to Venezuela. In 2005, she left the Nature Conservancy in 2005, she was appointed the senior director of the Natural Capital Project. In 2008 she was appointed Ambassador Exemplary and Plenary at the Embassy of Belize, Brussels, Belgium as ambassador designate for the kingdom of Spain as well as to France, Germany and Spain; Ambassador Designate to the Kingdom of Spain Netherlands, Germany, and France as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenary for the European Commission, which she held until the year 2012. Grant has been appointed to the panel to create the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund in 2011.
