Joshua Alan Sborz (born December 17th 1993) is an American professional baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was selected at 74th overall by Dodgers during 2015’s Major League Baseball draft. Sborz played in the NCAA baseball tournament in the University of Virginia.
In his junior season, Sborz was moved back to the bullpen, and called the team’s closer. Due to injury to the starters, Sborz made two starts toward the end in the season. The ace finished the season with an 2.49 ERA and was tied with Florida State’s Billy Strode for the ACC leading saves record with 12. In recognition of his efforts, Sborz was named to the All-ACC second team. In May 19th, 2015 Sborz pitched a one-hit shutout to Georgia Tech in an ACC Tournament play-in game. Sborz received the honor of being named as one of the College World Series Most Outstanding Player after UVA’s winning streak during this year’s College World Series. He earned three wins and one save in the span of four games, pitching 13 innings of scoreless inning, with 10 strikes, four walks, as well as seven hit allowed.
Sborz was called up to the Majors for the first time on April 14, 2019, but was optioned back to AAA on April 20 without appearing in any games. He was called back up to the majors on June 20 and made his debut that night. After pitching a scoreless eighth inning. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Sborz in the second round of the 2015 MLB draft. The Dodgers announced his signing July 8th the 8th of July, 2015. It was his first assignment to the rookie Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League to begin his career. After having pitched 2 games with the Raptors they were promoted to the Great Lakes Loons of the Class-A Midwest League. He also pitched two games with the Loons and went 0-1 with an 2.84 ERA leading to his transfer to Class-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League on August 14. After nine innings of relief with the Quakes the pitcher allowed two runs over the course of 12 innings. He was with the Quakes at the start in the season of 2016. He played in 20 contests, of which 19 were started. He went 8-4 with an 2.66 ERA and was named to the post-season and mid-season California League All-Star teams as in addition to his league’s pitcher of the season. His promotion was to Double-A Tulsa Drillers of the Texas League at the close of the season. He also pitched 10 relief games with them, with the 3.78 ERA.
