Jong was in the semifinal game against Venezuela and pitched an 1.1 innings no-hitter. He struck out MLB All-Star sluggers Melvin Mora, Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez.

Jong was a student at Dongdaemoon Commerce High School in Seoul, South Korea. The year 1995 was the time he made it as a member of be part of the South Korea national junior team and played in 1995’s World Junior Baseball Championship in Boston, United States, together with the his fellow Major League pitchers Kim Sun-Woo, Seo Jae-Weong and Kim Byung-Hyun.
