They began correspondence with Schillaci through letters. They formed an acquaintance through pen pals, which continued throughout his imprisonment for seven years.

In late October 1999, when Schillaci was returning from Tufts University, the couple’s five-year-old son informed his parents that they had “a secret”: Schillaci had sexually abused him during piano lessons. The family alerted authorities and police served Schillaci with a restraining order. Schillaci reported to work the next day and in the afternoon he fled and left his computer and car near a bus station. He gave his car keys to a coworker and told him to get rid of his truck and its contents.

After Schillaci was released from Rosharon prison on July 30, 1999, he registered as a sex offender and moved into the Deerfield family’s home in early August to start a new life in New Hampshire.

In 1989, the 17 year old Schillaci and a man who was 20 were accused of sexually assaulting twin brothers aged 11 years old. Schillaci and his companion became friends with twins who resided in an apartment with their mother who was single. They would take the brothers out to dinner and the screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show numerous times.

Jon Savarino Schillaci (born December 14 1971) is an American sexual offender and former fugitive that was included on the FBI’s Top Ten Most wanted Fugitives List on the 7th of September 7th 2007. Schillaci is now the 488th fugitive to be included on the list. He was arrested on June 5th on the 5th of June, 2008 . He was arrested in San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan, Mexico after almost nine years of being on the run. On the 22nd of December 2009, Schillaci was sentenced or 50 years behind bars. He is currently in the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility and is eligible for parole by December 2039.
