Deborah Jo Billingsley (May 28 1952 – June 24 2010,) was an American singer who was a soloist, songwriter, and record producer. Her most well-known work was her collaboration as a member of The Honkettes, backing vocalists for the Southern rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd.

As of 2005, the singer appeared numerous times as “The Honkettes” in an alternative version of Skynyrd named “The Saturday Night Special Band” which featured the former Skynyrd band members Ed King, Artimus Pyle and Leslie Hawkins, which helped raise funds in aid of the Hurricane Katrina victims.

Billingsley died in Cullman on June 24, 2010 after a battle with cancer at the age of 58.

A tragic October 20 plane crash in 1977 resulted in the death of some people from the group as well as road crew members, however Billingsley was the one member of the band not aboard the plane. She said that she had a vision two days prior to the time the plane crashed. She had foreseen the incident. She tried to warn other members of the band to not board the plane. According to Billingsley’s account, this incident was the catalyst for her becoming a new Christian.

Billingsley was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Doc and Hazel Billingsley. The family later relocated into Senatobia, Mississippi from Harmontown, Mississippi, where she was raised. In December 1975, she was employed together the likes of Cassie Gaines and Leslie Hawkins as backing vocalists in The Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd who’s leader, Ronnie Van Zant, called them “The Honkettes”.

Billingsley was not a part of the newly formed Lynyrd Skynyrd after the 1977 plane crash that occurred at Charlie Daniels’ 1979 Volunteer Jam due to the fact that she was not invited to perform at the event. She attended the premiere of Freebird The Movie at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre in 1995. She also performed “Sweet Home Alabama” at Lynyrd Skynyrd’s inauguration into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. She also performed with other members of the group in occasional memorial or charity events .

In 2007, JoJo appeared at Jam-A-Que (a southern rock get-together) with members of the Play It Again Jam in Pleasantview Tennessee. Her friend Jane Van Zant was also there.
