Spillane was the son of Jim Spillane and Nancy Spillane on November 24 the 24th of November, 1980. He grew up within Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and was a graduate of the Lowell Whiteman School. As a youngster living just blocks from the hill Howelsen in which he experienced skiing for the first time, and was attracted to the sport. Despite this early interest as well as the fact that he started skiing at the age of two but he didn’t attempt ski jumping until 11. For the first few years the alpine skis were his primary choice on jumps. He didn’t get his first pair skis until he reached 13. Johnny got married to wife Hilary who was an artist and photographer, in the year 2008. They welcomed their first daughter Hadley in the year 2010, their Second daughters Genevieve in 2012 and son Waylon in 2017.
In the 2010 Winter Olympics, in Vancouver, Spillane competed in three events. In the first in the individual 10km normal hill event Spillane was awarded the silver medal. This was his first American medal in the sport of Nordic Combined, and only the third American medal ever won for the field of any Nordic sport. After the ski-jumping section of the race, Finnish competitor Janne Ryynanen was the leader. Spillane and Jason Lamy-Chappuis along with a few others took on a tough race to make up the gap with Ryyanen in the cross- country section of the race. At the beginning of the final lap, when Norihito Kobayashi tried to breakaway but was stopped, Spillane took a strong lead. However, he was overexerting himself and was slowed down upon arriving at the venue where the race was scheduled to end. Lamy-Chappuis managed to keep pace and beat him in the last stretch. Lamy-Chappuis was able to catch him in the final stretch .4 second difference in their time is the smallest finishing time ever recorded in Nordic Combined events at the Olympics. Despite the close victory, Spillane told media afterwards that he was satisfied to have been awarded a medal.
Spillane took home his first world championship in 2003. He took first place as well as the gold medal in the 7.5 km sprint race in the World Championships in Val di Fiemme. By winning Spillane was the very first American athlete to take home an award of gold in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. But a calf injury kept him from defending his winning title in the 2005 Championships. In the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, Spillane was a disappointing tenth at the 7.5 km sprint, and 30th for the single. World Championships in 2007 and 2009 were disappointing for him , as Spillane never placed more than sixteenth place in either of the events. Spillane’s coach reported that while he had a difficult time in the final part of 2009 They expected him to be competitive and ready in the 2010 Winter Olympics located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Johnny Spillane (born November 24 in 1980) is an American athlete who is a part of nordic combined, which is a combined event that combines the cross- country and ski jump. Spillane is an international champion and triple Olympic gold medallist. He announced his departure of Nordic together on 18 April 2013.
Spillane was part of his way onto the United States team for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan but he was not a participant in any event. The following year, at 1999 World Championships he placed 32nd in the individual event , and 37th in the sprint. The following year in 2001, during the World Championships, he placed 32nd in the same individual event, but climbed to 14th for the sprint competition. In his second Olympics at that of the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was 32nd in sprint and individual events.
