John Van Benschoten is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on April 14, 1980 in San Diego, California, United States. John Wesley Van Benschoten (born April 14 in 1980) is an American former professional baseball player who was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Van Benschoten made his major league debut on 18 August of 2004, in a 6-3 defeat in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The scheduled pitcher Kip Wells was complaining of elbow pain prior to the game, which is why the Pirates summoned Van Benschoten to take his spot, and assigned the reliever Willis Roberts for assignment to make roster space. Van Benschoten went on to pitch in six games for the Pirates with five of them being starts. He had the 6.91 ERA in 28/3 innings pitched winning one game, but losing the other three. The player also scored his debut major league home run in a game against Casey Fossum.
Van Benschoten started the 2007 season at Indianapolis. He made his first start with the Pirates in the 2007 season on June 16 as a starter against the White Sox. Van Benschoten would go back to Indianapolis and be recalled later during the season only to finish the season with no wins and seven losses.
Van Benschoten would likewise start the 2008 season with the Indianapolis Indians and remain on the inactive roster for the Pirates. After posting a 4-0 record and a 1.88 ERA with the Indians, he was called up by the Pirates on April 27 to be on the active roster. He currently holds the all-time major league record for highest career ERA with at least 75 innings pitched. He became a free agent at the end of the season.
The Pirates suspended Van Benschoten for medical reasons on the 18th of September 2004 The reason was “shoulder fatigue” in his right arm. The pitcher did not return this year, and later, during November, he underwent surgery to repair the tears in the glenoid labrum as well as the rotator the cuff of his left hand. The injuries did not impact his pitching ability, and posed an issue just as a batter as well. Van Benschoten participated in the minicamp of the team in January. He began to feel an uncomfortable pinching sensation in his shoulder right arm. The surgery was ultimately needed for a repair of a tear in the right-hand shoulder labrum as missing the whole 2005 season.

Van Benschoten was a power-hitting superstar on the field at Kent State University, leading all of Division I in home runs in his junior year, hitting 31. He was awarded as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year as a first-baseman in 2001. Van Benschoten returned to play in August 2006, but made only 5 starts (split between the Bradenton Pirates, Altoona Curve, and Indianapolis Indians) before a further arm injury ended his season.
