In 2003 he began recording the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach on historical organs (many associated with Bach) for BBC television and Associated-Rediffusion television productions. The project was dubbed 21st century Bach, and began to be shown for BBC Two and BBC Four. Three DVDs (about 50% of the total) are available while series 4 is in the process of being made. Organs featured include the instrument that was rebuilt by Zacharias Hildebrandt that is located in St Wenzels church in Naumburg as well as St Boniface’s Church (the “Bachkirche”) located in Arnstadt. The series utilizes unique methods of filming, such as using miniature cameras, mirrors in the organ’s mechanisms, as well as floating cameras filming from different perspectives. The organist is shown in a quiet way strolling to the organ in the church that is empty and then walking away to finish his work. The title was designed in the hands of Damien Hirst and the recording engineer is John Warburton.
