Arrowood (born on November 4 1956) is an American lawyer and judge. In April of 2017, Arrowood was appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals by Governor Roy Cooper, to replace Judge Doug McCullough, a Republican who resigned just one month prior to when the age of retirement mandatory for all judges.

He also was a failed contestant for Court of Appeals in 2014 for the seat that was that was made vacant due to the resignation of Judge John C. Martin. Arrowood was second from 19 contestants.

Since Arrowood was selected to fill an expiring term, his name was up for election in November 2008. He was defeated to serve a full term in the election of Robert N. Hunter, Jr.

The family was born in Burnsville, North Carolina, Arrowood relocated from there to Caldwell County after the death of his parents. Arrowood graduated from Hudson High School in 1975. Arrowood graduated with the degree magna cumlaude of Catawba College in 1979 and earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1982. He served on the Court of Appeals staff and afterwards practiced law for several decades within Charlotte, North Carolina before becoming the state’s superior court judge between March and August 2007. Arrowood was a part on the Board of directors of the North Carolina Railroad, the N.C. Banking Commission, the N.C. Rules Review Commission as well as the N.C. Arts Council.

In August 2007, prior to that Arrowood was appointed to his position on the North Carolina Court of Appeals by Governor Mike Easley, replacing Judge Eric L. Levinson, who had resigned in order to accept an appointment to the federal court. Arrowood lost in the 2008 election.

He ran for a full term on the court in 2018 and won, becoming the first openly gay person elected to a statewide office in North Carolina.
