John Michael Guidry (born January 19th 1962) is an African- American Democratic judge in the Louisiana Court of Appeal for the First Circuit, Second District with its headquarters in Baton Rouge, the capital of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.
Guidry failed to win during 2012 to win the Place 5 position in the Louisiana Supreme Court though he was the top candidate in the non-partisan blanket primaries having 93,110 of the votes (27.5 percent). Guidry was the Republican Jefferson D. Hughes, III from Walker within Livingston Parish, also a circuit court judge, was second by 71,911 (21.2 percentage). Four other Republicans had 35 % of the votes; the other Democrat, 14.8 percent, and an Independent with less than 1 percent. In the runoff with a lower turnout on the 8th December 2012 Hughes was defeated by Guidry by 52,939 votes (52.8 percent) to 47,259 (47.2 percent) in order to secure the ten-year seat for the Supreme Court to succeed the retiring Catherine D. Kimball, the supreme justice during her final days on the tribunal.

He was instead elected back to state Senate and was elected when Guidry won an extra election to the court of circuit on the 18th of October 1997, to succeed the fellow Democrat J. Louis Watkins, Jr. of Houma within Terrebonne Parish, who died in his post. Guidry won 5,413 votes (62.6 percentage) against two fellow Democrats, Curtis A. Calloway and Donna Wright Lee, in the election that brought less than 9,000 people at the voting booths.

Guidry was a 1979 graduate of the historic black McKinley Senior High School and in 1983 graduated from Louisiana State University, both in his hometown of Baton Rouge. He earned the Juris Doctorate in 1987 from the historically black Southern University Law Center, which is also located within Baton Rouge. He is a professor in Southern University as well as the Southern University and the Southern Law Center. Guidry is an active participant in the NAACP and The Louis A. Martinet Legal Society along with the group 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge. From 1980 until 1984 Guidry worked as a legislative assistant. From 1984 to 1987, he served as the assistant clerk for the Louisiana House of Representatives. Guidry served as an associate attorney in East Baton Rouge Parish from 1988 until 1991, and maintained an individual practice from 1987 until 1997.
Guidry won the District 67 position within the Louisiana State House in 1991 , receiving 56.4 percentage of votes in a field of three candidates. Guidry was elected only from 1992 until 1993, at which point he resigned following his win in an election that was a special one to his seat in the Louisiana State Senate. The vacancy was created with an election to the second term in 1992 of black Democrat Cleo Fields for the seat of the 4th congressional district in Louisiana within the United States House of Representatives. Guidry was defeated by Republican Sandra Bologna Ribes in the state Senate contestby 10983 vote (64.8 per cent) in favor of 5,964 (35.2 percent).
In 2014, Judge Guidry was named the new president of the Louisiana Judicial Society board of governors.
